The appointment will be for a period of five years The successful applicant will be required- (a) To undertake visits to libraries throughout New Zealand, giving instruction in librarv methods and processes; (b) To arrange plans for professional training and instruction or library workers through correspondence courses and summer schools; (c) To prepare material for library publicity purposes: (<i) and to assist in organising such technical library projects as may be required from time to time. Applicants should have received adequate library training in a recognised library and have qualifications of a statement equal to that of a Fellowship of the Library Association (London) by examination, and possess a sound knowledge and practical experience of library routine and problems of urban i ana rural library administration The successful applicant will be required to ■bear any expense incurred in travelling to take up appointment. There are Vacancies !n the Mental Hospitals Department for Female \Nurses at the institutions at Auckland. Porirua (near Wellington), and elsewhere. Arrangements will be made to interview personally any applicant. Applicants should be twenty years of age and upwards, lint in special cases the age will be reduced to eighteen. The commencing salary is £105 per annum with free board and lodging, laundry and uniform, with an increase to £115 after one year's service, and to £125 after two years' service. Under present conditions promotion to higher positions with considerably higher salaries on passing the required Mental Hospitals Nursing Examination is rapid. Accommodation is provided in wellappointed Nurses' Homes. each nurse having a single room. There is ample provision for recreation, such as tennis, badminton and hockey. One month's holiday is given at the <>nd of every five months' service—every third day is off" duty. The Mental Hospitals Service offers a career to suitable persons, and may also be regarded as a stepping stone towards training in other branches of the nursing profession.
