POLLARD PRICES HIGHER. MAIZE COMING FROM JAVA. Since last report stocks of pollard have continued short ; and merchants have accordingly raised their prices 10/ per ton. The Australian market is still firm and only limited supplies are available from that source. Only small quantities are obtainable from the local mills. This remark also applies to bran and, in consequence, small shipments of this commodity continue to come forward from Australia. The potato market is firm. Merchants

are now obtaining .the bulk of theii requirements from the Bangitikei district, and the price, ex local stores, is steady at 12/ per cwt. Onions from Pukekohe are selling readily at 8/6 per bag. There is no change' in the market for horse feed. Both oats and chaff are sell-. ing steadily, but in limited quantities. ' The next shipment of Australian wheat is expected in Auckland about February 25, and merchants are now taking orders for delivery ex the ship. There is a moderate demand for barley at late rates. Local maize is still in short supply, and merchants are now placing their orders under the Government scheme for imports from Java. .These are expected to arrive in March and in April, the first about the middle of March, and dealers are quoting from 6/8 to 6/11 per cental according to quantities and terms of payment for delivery from the ship's side. Business in fertilisers is extremely active at present, and the demand for grass seeds and clovers for autumn sowings is commencing. Following are latest quotations, the price being based •on rates for delivery on trucks or boat:— Pollard and Bran.—Merchants' prices: Pollard, Australian, £9 10/ to £10 5/; local, £6,15/. Bran, £7 15/; Australian, £9 to £9 15/. Potatoes. —Bangitikei, 12/ per cwt. Onions. —Local, 8/6 per bag. Ohaff.—£ll 5/ per ton. Oats.—B Gartons, 11/5 to 11/8 per cental: A Gartons, 12/4; clipped Gartons, 13/2; clipped Duns, 15/; clipped Algerians, 13/4. Wheat.—ll/9 to 12/ per cental. Bailey.—Clipped, 9/8 to 10/ per cental; undipped, 8/8 to 9/. A reduction on these prices is available for deliveries from ship's side on a cash basis. Barley' Meal —10/ to 10/6 per cental. Wheatmeal.—l3/6 per cental. Maize.—l 2/10 to 13/5 per cental; crushed, ■ 14/6 to 15/.
