SOUTHERN EXCHANGES

, TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. i ! SHARP DROP IN SALES. ' BANK OF NEW ZEALAND WEAKER. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH. this day. It is typical of the vagaries of the Stock Exchange just now that after the •busiest day since April last yesterday | -when more than 6500 shares were sold, I this morning's call should be featureless, with only 400 shares changing hands and no transactions reported. Wes-tport Stockton Preferences had their first sale for some weeks, the price of 8/ being an advance of 1/. The favourable balance-sheet presented last week played its part in the firming of these shares. Other sales were of G. J. Coles at 79/, a drop of 6d, and Mount Lyell which, at 27/3, declined a point on last business. I The principal feature of the bidding in the banking section was a sharp decline in New Zealands. When these last had business it was at 39/1. Yesterday buyers were offeiing 38/11, but on to-day's quotations came down lid, sellers making no I concession. I Meat and wool generally were firm. I Buyers offered 3d more for Xew Zealand | Refrigerating, but at 17/3 were still 6d i J below sellers' requirements. Selleis of Brut* Wooll?ns raised their limits Sri to 10/1. but could not attract a buyer. Kaiapois were firm and Oamani's a little stronger. Industrials were nviinlv firm and the sharpest rise was in Australian Glass which moved up from £5 13/3 and £5 15/3 yesterday to close" at from £o 14/6 to £5 17/. Broken Hill Props., Dunlop Rubbers and Electro Zincs shared in the firmer tendency. SALES RECORDED. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH.
