For the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting at Wfngatui today the weather was fine and the track in good order. There was a large crowd present. Recollection, making his first appealance at the meeting, outclassed the Owhiro Hurdles field, beating the first day's winner, Western Song, by six lengths. Four lengths further back McHeath stalled off Baltruin by a length. Western Song opened up a break of six lengths early from Recollection and Baltruin, but Recollection, hurdling beautiiullv, ran past the leadeT three furlongs from home, to win hard held. Slayer and Night Scout were never in the picture. Recollection, the favourite, carried £380 and £341. Western Song carried £124 and £217.

Spear Thrust, after being third last to the straight, finished with a great run on the outside to beat Sunny Jean by two lengths in the Novice Handicap. Crack o' Dawn led Sunny Jean and Invader to the straight and, just after, Sunny Jean had the better of Crack o' Dawn, who ran about under pressure. Spear Thrust swooped down. Xeptune joined issue with the leader half-way down the straight, but could not improve, finishing fourth. Xext to finish were Pilot's Love and Lord Puck. Both Bi'boa and Our Empire were slow to move. Spear Thrust carried £10.3 10/ and £104 10/, Sunny Jean £161 10/ and £295 10/. Crack o' Dawn was favourite, carrying £521 10/ and £457 10/.
