A NARROW WIN.
TREVACE JUST FAILS. RACING AT ROTORUA. Silver Kagle was liovor further back than third in tlie Mokoia Hack, and ill a pood finish pot up to heat Trevace. The latter, after taking charge with a furlong covered, tried to make every post a winning one. and just failed. Valdene was finishing on but was not quite good enough. Silver Eagle, who drew the fence, led out from Trevace, Town Section and Clooneeii, with Kenneth Kobert and Ohmaha bringing up the rear. Along the back Trevace was in charge from Silver Eagle, Valdene, Kenneth Kobert and C'looneen. Trevace was clear of Kenneth Robert and Silver Eagle at the home turn with Valdene, Clooneen and Ohmaha next. Silver Eagle ,unt up to beat Trevace by a neck, with Valdene a length and a half away third. Then came Clooneen, Ohmalia and Town Section.
Related to Phar Lap. The favourite. Spinning Wheel, a relative to Phar Lap, opened her account when she annexed the Poliutu Highweight Handicap. Her dam, Gay Round, is a half-sister to Entreaty, the dam of Phar Lap. Spinning Wheel was never further away than second and stayed 011 well under pressure to beat Vaalso. The latter looked as though he would win half a furlong from home, and just failed to collect first prize. Romani led past the stands from Spinning Wheel. Long Span, Vaalso, Advance Acre and Sub-editor. Along the back Spinning Wheel joined Romani, the pair being attended by Advance Acre, Long Span. Vaalso and Ngakaru. Spinning Wheel v.-ent away from Romani when the straight was reached and stalling off Vaalso beat him by a head, with Chikara. who came from a good way back, two lengths away third, followed by Inquisitor, Haile Boy, Advance Acre, Mio Fratollo and Tralec Rose. The Favourite Fails. Ora King was always handily placed and put up his best performance to date when he won the Waimangu Stakes at Rotorua going away. General Riske also ran well, while Devon was closer at the finish than at any other stage. The favourite. Royal had every chance. Rival jumped out first and when the Held settled down was followed by Seven Seas, Silver Lance and Ora King. Seven Seas and Ora King led along the back from Silver Lance, Devon, Royal Message. Forlorn and Rival. Ora King was first into line from General Riske, Silver Lance and Devon and went on to beat General Riske by three lengths-, with Devon two lengths away, followed by Silver Lance, Royal Message and Rival.
