DOMINION'S RAILWAYS.
«FINE ENGINEERING JOB."
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Friday. The problems which had faced New Zealand engineers when building railways through difficult country were commented upon by Mr. A. C. Ahteton, chief mechanical engineer of the Victorian Railways, before returning to Australia after a visit to New Zealand. Railway engineering difficulties in Australia, he said, did not compare with those iu the Dominion.
"The engineering job done from the Otira tunnel to the Canterbury Plain," said Mr. Ahlston, "is a wonderful one. I can recall only one other place like it, and that is from the Mount Cenis tunnel going to Italy."
