Although much less work on new aerodromes is being done in Victoria than in Xew South Wales there is a steady increase in the number of "rounds in the State. Because of its "smaller area and the smaller number of medium*ized outback towns. Victoria, will never need nearly as ninny aerodromes as New South Wales, where several air services already run into the count rv. The only important, aerodrome now being erected in Victoria is at Bcndi-o Other towns are. however, likely to be-iii work before long. Victoria lias only two Federal Government aerodrome*— Kssoiidon and Kehma —compared with 17 in Queensland, 13 in Xew South Wales, 18 in West Australia, five, in South Australia, four in Tasmania, and. 13 in the Northern J eiTitory, Most of flip Government aerodromes were established when no other organisation was interested in providing facilities tor ihe services deemed necessary for the outback, and when there was "little reason for air services in Victoria. Some of Victoria's 11 Cinimoinvealthowned emergency landing "rounds ]„,„■ ever, are bettor than ' many licensed aerodromes. Xhill and Beual'la for instance classified as emergency' landingrounds, becau-e they were established tor that purpose with the now shelved night service in mind, are first-rate "Prodrome*. Wangaratt,,. in theorv oiilv an eiiK'rgenc-y landing ground "is ii, practice used by the Royal Victorian Aero Club for training. West Australia has a bigger share of tlie Commonwealth's total of 471 -,ero drome* and emergency landing -rounds than any other State. It lias 18 Govern ment aerodmmes-most of them along the Perth-Broome route and including the first established in Australia— 3?, emergency landing grounds, and 44 other licensed aerodromes
