i"g baum-marten turban with velvet crown and dubonnet dress trimmed with chartreuse. Miss Bennett's dress' was fashioned simply with straight skirt, pleated bodice, long tight-fitting sleeves trimmed with chartreuse suede—this trimming also for the round collar and crushed belt. Joan's accessories were in brown lizard.

T _ „ HOLL\ WOOD, January 8. "Ferdinand the Bull" is responsible for the latest Hollywood hat fashion, Remember the cliapeaux won by the five bullfighters? Ann Shirley has one just like them, made of black felt, with the front featuring gay floral print crepe in ribbed stitching. The same print crepe fashions the accompanying blouse, which goes under the wool crepe suit, with four slit pockets, also outlined With the same print. At a recent premiere Dorothy Lamour pleased the natives in a Mainbocher cerise net gown, with cerise satin shoulders and wide cerise satin belt, the net and draped, and tucked in at the bodice. The skirt fell in gracefill billows. A tiny diamond cros* was her only jewellery accent. Cerise sandals

Rosemary Lane has bought a dress that might have ste pped out of the "Arabian Nights." In black wool, heavily embroidered in blue, red and gold spangles, the gown is fashioned in moditied monastic &tyle, with the fullness falling from a yoke. The full skirt is held tightly at the waist by a belt of the same material. Spangling accents the yoke and skirt hem. To go witli it there is a black felt hat with tightfitting, round crown and small upturned brim. A veil scattered with the spangles that trim the dress falls to a point just below her nose. Dancing to Rudy Vallee's music at the Coconut Grove, Rita Havworth recently wore a full-skirted grey taffeta jjown with tight-fitting bodice and square neckline, which was embroidered in rubies. Ruby-coloured crepe sandals

featured a single wide band across the inatep that gave way to lacings over the heels. A -sable cape completed her ensemble. At the same event Irene Dunne wore a gown with a pencil-slim skirt and draped bodke with halter neck. A large pearl bracelet and pearl clips were Miss Dunne's jewellery ornamentation. Wrap—a little ermine jacket wjth puffed sieve*, so fashioned that the skins radiated from the scalloped edging. Gail Patrick lunching at the Brown Derby in an amber crepe dress with petal neckline outlined in gold thread. The material wa& twisted in bow effect to form two pockets on the bodice. Her gold-coloured suede belt widened at the front and closed with a scroll design gilt ornament. A brown antelope pillbox hat, brown antelope accessories and tawny fox cape gave added chic to Miss Patrick's ensemble. One of the best-dressed women at the Agua Caliente Jockey Club recently was Joan Bennett, who wore a collarless waist-length baum-marten jacket, match-

and a red wool full-length wrap with ermine that evolved into a jabot collar completed the outfit. Fashion odds and ends: Jane Bryan has a pair of flannelette pyjamas for cool nights that have tiny red dots and "Good night" printed on them in four different languages. (I refuse to v comment!) . . . Rosemary Lane has a lapel pin which is a little circular fish of diamonds with amethyst eyes and a wide-open mouth emitting pearl bubble*. But Rosemary prefers her necklace made of her baby jewellery—it includes two tiny rings, a heart locket, a gold cross and a cupid beauty pin. . . . Now that white and yellow gold art; being mixed, Joan Blondell wears a wedding ring of each. A good 'teen trick originates with Bonita Granville, who has her sweaters split on the sides about 6in up, so she can tuck the front in her skirt and let the back serve as a peplum. . . . For skating and ski-ing Bonita wears kitten mittens—they're white angora with thumbs, two ears and a face embroidered on the palm.
