VraiJy 4000 residents and visitors from ..II parts of the district thronged Wlii taker Street and the domain, this afternoon, on the occasion of the official vioit «f the Governor-General. Lord Galwav. and Lady Galway, who arrived shortly after 3.30. (ilorioiiH weather prevailed and. with the new domain entrance and the baths literally draped with Ha ff s. the colourful Hardens and greens formed a beautiful setting for the official reception and welcome. I'lowing Lord (ialwav's inspection of the fruaid of honour which consisted of members of the Te Aroha R.iS.A. and Ley ion of Frontiersmen, under the com-j inan.l of Captain G. H. Xicholls, the Mayor (Mr. K. Coulter) welcomed their Excellencies, and presented Lord Ualway with ail illuminated address. Mr. W. C. Kennedy, chairiniln of the I'iako Council, endorsed the Mayor's remarks.

It is a matter of satisfaction to Lady (ialwa.v and myself to be able to visit To Aroha, of which we have heard so much, and to see for ourselves the marked progress that has been made in »uch a comparatively short space of time,'' said his Excellency. "To the fores iff ht and enterprise of the early pioneers you owe much, and *1 hope it will be your endeavour to repay that debt to some extent by doing all in your power to ensure that'Te Aroha and its adjacent district retain their reputation as one of the most prosperous parts of the Dominion."

Referring to the international situation, Lord <Jul way said there was .vorldwide anxiety. The British natkn had viewed with the utmost consternation the crisi* of October last. Thanks, however, to the efforts of a very great English statesman, war had been averted. It wag the common hope of all that reason would prevail and goodwill would replace the terror* of international fears of war. Only until such time as wise counsel prevailed in the international relations could there be any prospect of a restoration of prosperity in industry and commerce. It was the wish of all Englishmen that cordial relationship with the nations of the world would be re-established.

"We have been in Xew Zealand for two years and are now on our last," concluded his Excellency. "On all sides we have been shown the greatest consideration and kindness. We have to thank yon for your goodwill, which we appreciate most heartily, and in return wish you and your country prosperity for the future."

With the official party on the dias nt the garden party were Mr. J. M. Allen, M.P., and Mrs. Allen, Mr. W. S. Cooseman, M.P.. and Mrs. Gooseman, Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., and }Irs. Thorn, Mr. and Mrs. <1. Hedge (deputy-Mayor and acting-Mayoress) and members of the Imrough council and Piako County Council.

An inspection was made by their Excellencies of the grounds, the mineral water springs and the Mokena Geyser. In the evening the vice-Regal party were the guests of the Caledonian Society at a special ingleside.
