HANAN STILL VICTORIOUS.
MISS WEBSTER AT MT. EDEN. K. B. ROGERS WIXS A DOUBLE. Further proof of his supremacy as a sprinter in Auckland was given by I'. llauan (winner of the Auckland 100 yards title last week) at the Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club"* carnival hi the Mount Eden- Baths last night. Hanan beat both his principal rivals in the championship event, A. l'ascoe and X. Crump. The former was on scratch with him, and the latter had a start of one second. Once more it was the great sprint unwound by Hanan over the last 25 yards that enabled him to cope with the other two men—Pascoe in the heat swim and Crump in the final. In both races each led him at 66 2-3 yards, but by the finish he had made up the leeway and gained enough advantage to win by decisive margins. His time in the heat against Pascoe was 565, and in the final against Crump 56 1-oe. : These are fine fresh-water sprints. Crump made his usual keen effort to beat the champion. Pascoe's display was not as noteworthy as when he was runner-up to Hanan for .the sprint title. The former national champion, R. B. Frankham, who i was not a competitor in last week's ehamI pionships, took part in the first heat, and j won it from scratch in 57 1-5, which, was I equalled by Crump, winner of the next I heat. Frankham did not compete in the 1 final. The competitions . were watched by a ! large number of. spectators. A double success was secured by K. B. Rogers, the enthusiastic Mount Eden boy. -He won the 50 yards intermediate handicap, and later the 50 yards open handicap. Those consistent swimmers, R. Sellars (Ponsonby) and Veitch and W. Billings (both of Mount Eden) were first, second and third respectively in the final of the 220 yards open handicap. A welcome visitor to the carnival was Judith Webster, national lady breaststroke champion a few years ago, who was renewing acquaintance with Mount Eden club mates after being in Australia for nearly two years. The honorary secre* tary, Mr. H. W. Moore, handed her a New Zealand swimming blazer, to which she was entitled by virtue of "her victories in the national championships.
