THE SWING VOGUE.
Dajifiing to the swiftly-moving pace of the "Coconut Grove Hotshots" at the Cabaret Metropole last evening, a large and enthusiastic crowd of guests were initiated into the latest innovations of swing mueic. Lively melodies in favour with leading overseas dance bands were featured on novel lines by the "Hotshots" conductor and his competent associates, who revelled in the manifold intricacies of syncopated measure. Amongst the new numbers recently received from abroad were "Symphony in Riffs" and ''Chatterbox," which allowed for original specialising. Popular airs with catchy refrains were also included in the programme, for the band's objective is to please everyone and impart fresh vitality to the dancers with their characteristic mode of orchestral presentation. The players' sense of effect was also evidenced in their dressing and in the tropical dais setting. ° Miss Phyllis Porter met with a hearty reception for her well-rendered songs, including "Alexander's Ragtime Band"°to orchestral accompaniment, and trumpet solos by Mr. Taylor added to the success of the entertainment.
