Taylor, Katikatt District High. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Campbell, explained that probationary assistants were people who had completed their coarse of training at the Auckland Training College, and they are to be employed as probationary assistants at schools for one year. Auckland had not sufficient from the Training College who had completed their training at the end of 1938 to fill all the positions, so the Department had proposed to make transfers from the south. Auckland at present had a surplus of relieving teachers, who had completed their course as probationary assistants, and they are to be kept in temporary employment until they can obtain permanent positions.
