MARATHON MATCHES. ■ i DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS. PLATERS DECIDE SECOND ROUND REPLAY. Elimination contests in tlie earlier rounds of matches in the men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles events were played yesterday at the Stanley Street Courts where the annual Auckland provincial lawn tennis championship tournament was continued. Among long-drawn-out matches in th© first round of the men's doubles was one between the Waikato pair. D. B. Livingstone and J. Roach, and W. T. Pountney and I. A. Wylds, the former proving successful, and another in which A. S. Broun and E. H. Orbell defeated H. Bowen and D. Richardson. The lengthiest match in the first round was that between J. D. Bull and B. McL. Wallace and G. W. Radonich and M. R. Andrews, four erf the five sets going to advantage. This commenced at 10.43 a.m. and did not finish until 2.15 p.m. Bull and Wallace started in a second round contest against Anderson and Potter at 5.15 p.m. and at 7.30 p.m., when the umpire decided that the light was not satisfactory, the teams were 6-all in the I fifth set. Whether the match should be I resumed where it left off, or whether a I replay should take place remained at the discretion of the referee, who had left the courts earlier.
