BABY COMPETITION.
ENGLISH ORGANISATION. SHIELD FOR EMPIRE. The Imperial Baby Week Challenge Shield Competition organised by the National Baby Week Council, London, will take place between June 1, 1938, and June 1, 1939. The object of a Baby Week Campaign is to promote in every way possible right ideas and ideals regarding fatherhood, motherhood and the wellbeing of infants and little children. A local Baby Week campaign is a form of propaganda which by reason of its very intensity is calculated to have great effect. The United Kingdom, under the auspices of the National Baby Week Council, has led the way in Babv Week celebrations, and the movement is steadily growing throughout the Empire. The National Baby Week Council, England, awards annually a silver challenge shield for the most effective Babv Week campaign held throughout the Empire, including the Irish Free State, but excluding the United Kingdom. Conditions vary enormously throughout tlie Empire, and therefore each campaign is judged on its merits, particularly in relation to the way in which it is devised to meet the peculiar circumstances of the district it is to cover. For the benefit of intending New Zealand competitors the National Baby Week Council is addressing information governing the regulations of the competition to M. H. Watt, Esq., M.D., Director of General Health. Department of Health, Parliamentary Library Building. Wellington. Previous winners o" the shield include Baby Week committees in India. Ceylon, South Africa, West Africa, West Australia and Canada. No New Zealand committee has yet had the honour of winning the shield.
