Preferring to await the outcome of the conference to he held in Wellington next week with the object of clarifying the position, a s|>ecial meeting of importers and business men decided in the meantime not to sijin the petition framed in Ancklnnd asking that the import regulation* lie revoked until their validity has been tested in a court of law. It was also decided to submit for clarification any special circumstances or anomalies applying locally. The opinion was expressed that the import restriction* would be followed by a rise in the cost of living, which was already manifesting itself.
