TROUBLE DENIED.
IMPORT OF POLLARD. SUPPLIES FROM ADELAIDE. Three major grain merchants in the city stated this morning that they knew nothing of any trouble attending the import of pollard from Adelaide. A fourth said: "We are inquiring jnto the matter ourselves. We do not think there is anything in it." In a published report it had been stated that, as an example of the uncertainty existing in Australia concerning the financial situation in the Dominion, merchants who were expecting supplies of pollard from an Adelaide supplier had been informed that stocks were not shipped because of a lack of knowledge whether payment would be made. It was stated that the Auckland merchants had obtained licenses to import stocks, and that on the arrival of the stocks the money would have been sent to Australia; and. also, that as the market was short of supplies, the nonshipment was unfortunate. Inquiry was made among grain merchants this morning, and one firm stated that though they had had a communication from an Adelaide firm to that effect, the quantity concerned was small and the instance was not important. Only one of a number of Adelaide merchants was concerned, and he had informed them that owing to the uncertainty of the position he was forwarding tiie shipment in February instead of January. It was believed by this firm that the delay in the shipment was for the convenience of the Adelaide shipper and not for any other reason. The Auckland firm,' it was stated, was making inquiries into the matter.
