William Cullen Bryant's desk in hte newspaper office was always about 20 inches deep in papers and books of all kinds. • The heaps of opened letters, manuscripts and pamphlets—many of them years old—left scarcely enough room for the famous editor's elbows. There are occasionally "separations" in the quail family. A male bob-white will take over the nest, incubate the eggs, rear the family and not allow.the female to approach him or his nest.
