JUNIOR TENNIS.
THE NATIONAL TITLES. FINE START BY AUCKLAND. ONLY OWE PLAYER BEATEN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANOANUI, Wednesday. After heavy rain during the nitiht, the Xew Zealand junior lawn tennie championships opened on the Wanganui Club's courts an hour and a half after the. echeduled , time this morning. Although very greasy at flret, the courts eoon dried out under the mm and wind, and by mitlday th* conditionii, except for a u\mty wind, were good. Splendid progress waa made with the matches, the hrst and eecond rounds of the singles being completed and the first round of the doubles. It may be eaid that there were no surprises in to«day's play, and there ia promise of excellent matches ahead. Auckland representatives had a particularly successful day, as only one of seven northern players waa beaten—H. Barance. The other competitor in the boys' event, A. Burn*, has reached the third round, while none of the five girls suffered a defeat in the singles. Results l of the four events:— BOYS' SINGLES. Plret Round.—R. Shvppanl, Tarnnnkl, beat O. Nash.
