MR. E. BARLING'S SERVICE. Detecti\c .Serjreant K. Bailing litis retired from flu; New Zealand Police Force after 17' years' service. 1 lie greater part of which was spent in the plain clothes branch of the force. He is going into business on liis own account in the Palmcrston North district. Yesterday afternoon Mr. Barling was farewelled by a large gathering «.»f liis colleagues :it the Auckland detective otTice, when thief Detective S. G. Hall presented him with a. silver tea service. Detective-Sergeants J. Walsh and P. J Nalder and Detective H. C. Murch also spoke and referred to the fine career of Mr. Barling In tlie police force.
