SCHOOLS' MILK.

NO CLOSED SEASON.

PRICES TO PRODUCERS. CONTRIBUTIONS BY FARMERS. An amendment of a former resolution of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council which was parsed at last night's meeting fixed the prices of milk bought by vendors from dairymen for sale to the Health Department for distribution in schools at SJd a gallon from January 3 to March 31 and at 10|d a gallon for next April. For milk bought by a vendor from another vendor for the same purpose the price will be 11 id a gallon for pasteurised and »id a gallon for unpasteurised milk for the first period, and \/\\ a gallon for pasteurised and lid a gallon for unpasteurised milk for April. The price formerly fixed to the end of April for milk bought by a vendor from a dairyman was 7Jd a jrallon. The chairman, Mr. I. J. Ooldstine, said a meeting of the Milk in Schools Committee had been held at which Mr. C. J. Jyovegrove, producers' representative on the council, had lwen present. As a result of the discussion the prices in the draft resolution were agreed to;

Mr. said lie had accepted the prices ill a. spirit of compromise, realising that the <ioveriinient had made up its rniiH. not to pay a greater juice. The farmer had already made three contributions to the milk in schools scheme —a donation of £I0,0<M) as a direct deduction from the pay-out to the farmer by his contribution as a taxpaver, and bv selling milk at below the cost of production. It was only fair that this should be made known to tinpublic. "The price we fix cannot be retrospective," said Mr. Goldstiue, "but the Government representative on the Milk in Schools Committee intimated that he understood that it would be made retrospective to September 1."
