REPAIRS TO WHARF.

MOTUIHI ISLAND LANDING. PEAKS OF DANCKR RELIEVED. Work now Wing carried out oil the wharf at Motuihi Island will relieve fears expressed in >ome i|iiarters that the wharf may not lie sound enough to stand the heavy flow of holidaymakers expected at the island this summer. Attention has been drawn to the fact that parts of the wharf have a ppeared to be noticeably shaky at times when numbers of visitors liave walked along it to and from excursion boats. Recently the Community Sunshine Association, which conducts a children s health camp on the island, suggested to the Auckland City Council that reports of the state of the structure should bo given some consideration. Repairs that will ensure the safety of the wharf for the present season at least are already well under way. They involve the bracing of the wharf, the replacement of planking where necessary. and repairs to the steps. Early next year the city engineer, Mr. J. Tvler, will submit to the council a report on requirements for the future.
