AUCKLAND CENTRE. CHAMPIONSHIPS IN JANUARY. CARNIVALS APPROVED. Mr. R. Moore presided at last night's meeting of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, at which it was decided to hold the Auckland junior, intermediate and senior championships on January 17 and 19. The Otago Centre inquired whether the centre could Misses W. Dunn and J. Macdonald to make attempts on New Zealand records in Auckland during their coaching, tour. Miss Dunn would attempt her own 220 yards ladies' breaststroke record, while Miss Macdonald would endeavour to lower Miss R. Stacpoole'e (Auckland) intermediate backstroke record. The centre agreed to make the necessary arrangements, pro-, vided the swimmers* appearance coincided with the Auckland championship meetings, and to ask Misses Dunn and Macdonald to attempt a record on each night of the championships as added attractions. An application by the North Shore Club to conduct <l carnival in conjunction with the Cheltenham carnival committee at Cheltenham Beach on December 31- was approved. The Mount Eden Club wa6 granted (permission to hold a carnival at the Mount Eden Baths on January 24. The centre decided to consider the question of holding a carnival at the Milford Pool on the evening of Anniversary Day. The Otahuhu Club was granted permission -to proceed with the arrangements for holding a carnival to coincide with the itinerary of the touring lady swimmers. • It was decided to write to the New Zealand Council stating that the centre considered -that the council should in future co-operate with the New Zealand Surf Association in order that the championship meetings of the two bodies would not clash: It was recommended that the management committee should inquire into the matter of uniformity in regard to club blazers.
