' The Hon. E.-R. Davis,-M.L.C., returned by the Limited express,from Y/ellington this morning. The Hon. B. Martin, M.L.C., was a passenger for Auckland by the express from New Plymouth this morning. Mr. A. K. Knowles, chairman of the New Zealand Poultry Board, will leave for Wellington by the. Limited express this evening. Mr. A. E.. He fiord,. chief inspector of Fisheries, will return to Wellington by this evening's Limited oxpress after a brief visit to Auckland. Major F. C. Soar, X.Z.A.. has been promoted to lieutenatit-colonel and has relinquished the cpmmand of the 21st Field Battery. X.Z.A., to take command of the First Field Brigade for a period of two years, states a notice in a recent "Gazette."
■Mr. K. B. Tennent, director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, who has been 011 a short visit to Auckland, is cxpected to return south by the express for Wellington this evening.
Dr. C. E. Hercus, dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Otago, will leave at the end of this year on a nine months' visit to the United States of -America and Great Britain. He lias been awarded a Carnegie Corporation visitors' grant to study university and medical school administration and recent developments in the biological sciences.
Mr. T. E.'YI Seddon, who lias been acting as Consul-General for Greece in Xew Zealand since the death of Mr. Frank Dyer last January, has had his appointment officially confirmed. He has been chairman of the War Pensions Board since March. 3930. Mr. Dyer who was Mr. Seddoirs brother-in-law, had been Consul for over 30 years, so the appointment is a continuation of the family connection with , the Greek community in the' Dominion.
The Rev. A. J. Grigg, principal-elect of the Baptist College of Victoria, has returned-to Auckland after a.brief visit to Melbourne.
Captain H. Bawson. E.N. (retired), accompanied by his wife and their two daughters, lias arrived in Auckland on a fortnight's visit. They aree at Hotel Cargen.
The Rev. D. C. Herron. minister of Knox Presbyterian. Church, Dunedin. ancl formerly of St. David's, Auckland, will leave early next year on an extended visit to Great Britain.
'Mr. Henry James Grayson, head office inspector for the Standard Insurance Company, was appointed assistant general manager at a recent meeting of the directors of the company.
Mi*. W. D. M. Glaister has returned to Auckland after an absence of nine months durinjr which he visited Great Britain, the United States of America. Canada, Europe and Australia. He was accompanied by Mrs.. Glaister.
