A LARGE FIELD. RACING AT TE RAPA. PROSPECTS OF BALIN AVAR. The Hack Cup, to be run over a mile at Te Kapa next Saturday, should provide a good race. Twenty-eight have been accepted for, and several have shown good form this
The minimum weight is 7.7. so that Balinavar. who is top-weight with !>.S. has not been hardly treated, for he has not been out of the money in liis four stalls tlrs i season. Witii 9.0 he accounted I'orCthe Xgatea Handicap, seven furlongs, at I'aeroa in October, beating, among others. (Salloping Acre, who hail 7.7. and .Melvanui, who carried !•.(! His next effort was in a division of the (iordon Handicap, six furlongs. at the Auckland spring meeting, and I with he won again, beating Sly Fox. Xoitaro and others. He made his next appearance in the Takapuna Plate, seven furlongs, and he was prominent all the way. but Oriental Bay got up in the last hit to beat him. He had 8.12 on that occasion, while the next day. in the Pupuke Plate, one mile, with a similar impost, he was second to Ko.vovrus. while Melvanui. with 5.7. was third. The latter, who is also engaged with 8.12. had been narrowly beaten in th,e I'onui Handicap, oi' siniil.n distance, on the lirst day by Muster Appelant. when caiiying 8.! l. He will have to be considetcd. Prival and Cay Mimic have 8.1(1. but the former has failed on several occasions this season. <Ja\ Mimic has laced on three occasions, being placed twice over six furlongs at the Poverty Kay meeting in October. (lay Sister (8,8) has not been in the money this season, but Hnile Boy was placed over six furlongs at Kotorua and ran two fairly gooil races at Te Rapa last month. Kaceline and Inquisitor are on the 8.3 mark. The former was narrowly beaten over a mile at the Avondale fixture in September with a similar impost by Jayola. while he scored over a mile at the meeting held there last month witii 7.ttVa. Master Appellant' (8.2 I ran his best race to date when he scored at Kllerslie last month, and he has been galloping well since then. Full Hand, who has the same weight, has only had two races, and those were at the hist Avondale fixture, where lie scored over seven till longs in good style. He is a very promising sort. Devon (8.0) showed fine promise at the last meeting at Te Rapa. where he was second to High Sea over seven furlongs with 7.7. and the next day. with Mb more. High Sea beat him again in the Waikato j Hack Cup. one mile. Kastern Heir (7.121 has been second on three occasions this season, his best effort being when he acted as runner-up to Royal \ aals ■ti the I auwhnre Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Waikato meeting "last month. British Banner (7.11) was second in the Hack Cup. one mile, at Whangarei recently, while Phileuuip's best effort this term was in running second to Pahnint over nine furlongs at Paeroa. Galloping Acre (7.81 was third to High Sea and Devon in the \\ aikato Hack Cup. and has been in the money on other occasions. Of those on the minimum. Poland. Long Span and Midland may lie the best. The favourites may be: Kalinavar. Melvanui. Master Appellant, Full Hand, Devon and Galloping Acre.
