BEEF STEADY.
WESTFIELD MARKET.
CALF PRICES DOWN. LARGE NUMBERS OFFERED. Beef prices were generally steady, but there was a decline in calves, on the Westfield fat stock market to-J ay. Steers came forward in average numbers, and sold at late rates to a ready demand, while the yarding of cows showed an increase on last week's rates. This accounted for a slight easing in cow beef in the later stages of the sale.
The highest price of the day went to the Fairview Land Company, Pokeno, their truck of eight steers selling from £11 17/6 to £15 ].»/. A lot of six sold on account of Mr. J. I. Dickie, Waiuku, made a better average, though the top price of £15 17/6 was lower. A draft of 18 from Xevv Zealand Forest - Products, Ltd., Putaruru, sold from £12 10/ to £14 10/, and two from Mr. E. Caddigan, Ohinewai, brought £13 to £14 2/6.
The entry of calves was the biggest for a long time, and values fell about 10/ a head all-round. There was little demand for any except prime sorts, lighter ami unfinished calves being a drug oil the market.
