HEADMISTRESS HONOURED. FAREWELL PRESENTATION. I Miss M. Blythe Law, headmistress of the institute school, who is retiring shortly after nearly 40 years' eervice, was tendered a farewell party and presentation by her pupils at the New Zealand Institute for the Blind at Parnell. On her arrival, Miss Law, who was wearing a frock of honey gold and black patterned silk voile, was presented with a sheath of carnations by Mie* Elsie Harvey and Mi*s Jean Cramp. The guest* were received by an ex-pupil, Miss M. E. Gardiner, and many of those present were from all parts of New Zealand. Another former pupil, Mr. D. A. Algie, presided at the gathering. in speaking of Mis* Law'* work, Mr. Algie referred to the way in which the students were indebted' to Mis* Law for the help and guidance she had given them. The acting-director, Mr. J. Broadfoot, read letters from the chairman of the board of trustees, Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, and from a member of the board, Mr. T. U. Wells, who were unable to be present. In making the presentation of a diamond ring to Miwi Law, Mr. Harold Laurent, one of the older pupile, said: "It is a privilege to do honour to one who ha«t done so much for the blind people in this Dominion. Thcje are hundreds of us who owe our success to the training she has given, and we thank her sincerely 1 for all she ha* done for us." A programme comprising a pianoforte solo by Siiss Alice Law, a duet by Mies Lilian Martin and' Miss Blanche McKenzie, vocal solo* by Miss Eunice Hawiina and Mr.. Henry Midgley, a saxophone solo by Mr. Stuart Gordon, and a cornet solo by Mr. Allan Morton, was enjoyed. Among those present were: Mr*. J. Broadfoot, who wore a frock of cherry floral chiffon; Miss C. Swaneton, the matron of the institute, in black crepe with the sleeves appliqued with Chinese red; Mies Alice Law, in royal blue lace.
