DEVONPORT IMPROVEMENTS.
SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS.
A comprehensive report embodying six fool sea p was presented to the Devonpdit Borough Council by a gpetfal committee comprising Messrs. K. A. Ahlridge (chairman), T. C. Hobbs-.lones and H. Morris, which thoroughly investigated the lighting of the borough. •
In presenting the report Mr. Aldridge said the matter arose because of extra discounts equivalent to seventy 100-watt lamps being granted by the Waitemata Power Board. The committee had inspected every corner of the borough and every lamp, and in its report a scheme had been produced for improved and better illumination of every part of the lwroiigh.
A summary of the eommittrt>> report showed that 4fi light* of 100 watts ami three each of 200 and 300 watt* were recommended. The committee wa« of the opinion that staggering of street lights wan effective and recommended that wherever possible that system be carried out. Furthermore, that the eentral suspension of street lights at intersection* would be a distinct Improvement over the method generally adopted of nutting one light on the most convenient corner pole. Mr. W. F. McLean congratulated the committee on the-thoroughness of the inspection and report. The recommendations of the committee were adopted.
