THE CASE PROCEEDED.
i | FIRE IN COURTHOUSE. t JUDGE UNPERTURBED. 1 (Bj Telegraph.—Press Association.) :1 NAPIER, Tuesday. B An unexpected interlude occurred during the hearing of a civil case in I the Supreme Court at Napier to-day, e when a strong smell of burning per- '* vaded the Court and the fire siren II sounded. " Counsel paused in the middle of his address to remark: "I fear the Court is on fire, your Honor." S "I thought those blowlamps would l set us alight before now," replied Mr. Justice Blair. The hearing of the case proceeded. The outbreak occurred in a corner of y the law library, while the building was [. being prepared for painting. The woode work had apparently been smouldering for some time, and when discovered the fire was blazing fiercely between the outer and inner walls. A painter smashed a window to gain access to the library, and the fire brigade was called. The flames were extinguished promptly, but the water and chemicals seriously damaged some valuable books. ■ During the fire, solicitors, clerks and Court officials assisted in the removal of t I books from the library. sl =====— >
