RECORD LIKELY.
CHRISTMAS TRADE.
MR. SAVAGE IS PLEASED.
EVIDENCE OF PROSPERITY.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Promising prospects for a record Christmas trade this year were referred to by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. «K Savage, in an interview.
I look upon the official reports of increased preliminary Christmas and summer holiday purchases as "ratifying evidence of the prosperity of the people." said Mr. Savage. "I know of nothing more encouraging than the ability of the people to spend freelv on the distribution of happiness. "It is quite true that we have our diftuulties and problems, but it is also a fact that the people of New Zealand to-day are probably in a better position than those in any other country in the world to secure Yuletide happiness. The real merriment of Christinas is the ability of the people as a whole to secure Christmas cheer. I am delighted with the official reports as to good business and record prospects throughout the Dominion," he added.
