CRASH INTO RIVER.

LORRY DRIVER'S CHOICE. SCHOOL BUS AVOIDED. (From Our Correspondent.) KAITAIA, Monday. When he chose to crash through the rails of a bridge at Double Crossing, a few miles from Kaitaia, rather than collide with a bus filled with school children. Mr. H. Chrietensen, the owner and driver of- a motor truc-K, narrowly escaped drowning this afternoon, when his vehicle plunged into the river below. Mr. Christenscn was descending a lull with a load of metal in his truck and noticed a school bus approaching the bridge. With his heavy load he was unable to stop the truck in time, and to avoid the bus he struck the rails. The truck turned a somersault nnd binded in the river with its wheels uppermost.

A number of people near tlie scene of the accident took Mr. Christensen from the water and revived him after, artilicial respiration had been applied. He also suffered from severe , l»ruisin;r and shock.
