A fratiiiv of thr. week-end play was the ttirhtlng ilisiiltiy -iven by the colts, Uiluurth Old lin.\s, who. after rather cheaply dismissal f,, r Ct by Manukau, for whom Mann in his best form tonk six wickets for .'iS. With steady bowling by Hitchcock (four fur -J4), allied to snappy fielding, .Manukau were soon tivo wickets down for I' 4 runs, and there was a feeling that but
for tho afternoon adjournment. TMlworlh might easily have maintained their grip on the game which they lost by only four runs. It was W. Hollius (px.Y.M.C.A.) 21, and Lend mm 18, who save the situation for the winuiers. GOLDSWORTHY IN FORM. Goldewortliy, who compiled 73 of It.V.'s ngaiiiKt Ponsonhy (109) appears to have struck his best, batting form. His partnership with Bambury (52) was one of the sparkling interludes of the afternoon. Hie on-tlrlving at times was superb. Barnbury played some'nice square cuts and leg glances. R. Simpson also did well, and the newcomer. Hill, held on well for double Hgurcs. Beyoud Matthews (37) and to some extent Lonergan and Hook. Ponsonby's batting was poor. Finlayson bowled with his usual vigour and accuracy, taking six wickets for 34, although Wildman started wt >ll—seven overs, 13 rune, with two wickets. After Brixton had batted disappointingly for 61, Green Lane were extremely lucky to win. It was the ex-New Zealand hockey rep.. It. Roughton (who wields a bat every whit aa effectively as he sweeps a hockey stick), who saved his side with a resolute stand for 60 in a total of 104. For Brixton, J. Hetherington, with t»ix wickets fer >8, revealed ability as a slow bowler. NO PLAY NEXT SATURDAY. There will be no play at the Domain on Saturday. The following week Green Lane will meet R.V.. Manukau will meet Brixton, and Uilworth will meet Poueonby.
