POPE'S DELEGATE.
APPOINTMENT TO BRITAIN. (Received 1.30 p.m.) VATICAN CITY, November 23. Monsignor William Godfrey, Rector of the English College at Rome, has been appointed Apostolic Delegate to Great Britain, with residence in England. Monsignor Godfrey, who was. a member of the Papal delegation to King George Vl.'s Coronation, was born at Liverpool in 1889. He became priest in 1016, and is a member of the Supreme Council for Propagation of the Faith. It is expected he will be nominated titular archbishop before coming to Britain in January. It is explained in the Vatican City that the position Monsignor Godfrey is to assume is of ecclesiastical importance in the representation of the Pope to British Catholics. However, he will not have diplomatic status, nor will he be entrusted with a diplomatic mission. Nevertheless, although the appointment is purely clerical, Vatican circles, it is reported, are hopeful that it will contribute to the maintenance of good relations with Britain.
