| THE DONKEY GOES. i TOO SLOW FOR LOXDOX. i LONDON. ' Donkeys in England seem well on the way to becoming as scarce as dancing 1 bears. There used to be a donkey 1 dairy in the Bayswater section of Lon--1 don, and old people and sickly children i whose doctors prescribed donkey's milk used to get all they wanted at tbe * equivalent of 4/ a quart. But a few months ago, when a doctor wanted 1 donkey's milk for a child, he had to " broadcast a nation-wide appeal before " lie could find it. f London's costermongers used donkeys t to haul their barrows, and 30 years ago • the annual donkey show hold by Our Dumb Friends League attracted 150 entries. This year it attracted 23. S Donkeys, it appears, are now too slow j for London's streets. They still sur vive on mauv beaches during dav season, them.
