PERFECT DEAL.

BY WOMAN PLAYER. GRAND SLAMS CALLED. CARDS WERE SHUFFLED. Four women playing bridge at Umtata, Cape Province, were dealt thfe perfect deal, each player finding a complete suit in her hand. The odds against this happening are 035,013,559.600 to one. For the cards had been used in the previous rubber and were shuffled, cut and dealt in the ordinary way.

Such a deal has been claimed two or three times before, but usually it is found that the cards have been used for playing patience and imperfectly shuffled. In this case the dealer joyfully declared a grand slam in hearts. Second player, holding thirteen clubs, was forced to pass. Third player called a grand slam in spades, and fourth, with thirteen diamonds, could also make no call.
