TEACHING FIRST-AID.
HAMILTON PROPOSALS. 1 (From Our 'Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. With reference to the announcement that the Minister of Education and Health, the Hon. P. Fraeer. had invited the St. John Ambulance Association to arrange for a preliminary teaching of first-aid in Standards V. and VI. in all primary schools, and to all pupils in secondary schools, the district supervisor of the South Auckland area of the association. Mr. H. D. Cobb, said to-day that the Hamilton executive had taken up the matter of giving first-aid instruction to primary school children with the Hamilton Headmasters' Association 18 months ago.
A free half hour in the school curriculum was being used for giving instruction in first-aid to the senior pupils. Some ambulance members who worked at night were instructing the children in school hours, but whore voluntary instructors were not available it" was hoped that some remuneration would be given. The association hoped to establish cadet divisions in the schools, the members of which could render first-aid in minor accident cases.
