£5G FINE IMPOSED. BEER SALES ADMITTED. SURPRISE FOR CUSTOMER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARI'NTT, this day. Reginald L. Jackson pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr. R. M. Watson, S.M., to two charges of keeping liquor for sale in a proclaimed area. Sergeant Clist. in outlining the case, said that for some time past defendant had been engaged in dealing in liquor in and around Taumarunui. and for the past two months he had not been in regular employment. As a result of information received the police went to Manunui. where defendant occupied a room. Defendant was quite frank when accused, admitted having been engaged in selling and keeping liquor for sale for several months past. Beer and whisky were found on the premises and defendant, who had been warned by the police previously, promised to give u]> the business. A few days later defendant received another consignment of beer, and when his room was inspected by the police 10 glasses, which smelt of liquor, were on the tabb\ Defendant admitted selling four dozen bottles on October !•"> and 10. "Vn len the police were in defendant's room on October 14 a customer called and asked for a drink.
Defendant was convicted and fined £25 oil each charge.
