BOXING AT GREY LYNN.
ST. COLUMBA TOURNAMENT.
A boxing tournament was staged last evening in the St. Columba Hall, Grey Lynn, before a good attendance. Exhibitions by well-known boxers formed the main features of the progtainme, and some clever work was witnessed.
The main attraction of the evening was the appearance of Tommy Jones, _ exworld« coloured welter-weight professional champion. The exhibition bout between Young Gildo and Vic Caltaux provided some clever sparring, in which Gildo demonstrated his ability to avoid punishment by quick footwork. Other bouts were staged by J. Ramsford, ex-Australian heavy-weight champion, and F. Butler, of Auckland. Butler also gave a display with M. Willis, the Australian welter-weight. A welterweight exhibition bout between H. Roberts (Auckland gymnasium) and K. Nixon (Davey's gymnasium) proved attractive. C. Worth (Donovan e gymnasium) showed out in clever leading in his bout with H. Thompson (Davey's gymnasium). G. Gordon, Auckland bantamweight champion, and D. Johnston, wel-ter-weight, gave a fast and scientific- display*. _ The amateur bouts resulted: — T. Brown (Leys Institute) defeated A. Hogg (Hogg's gymnasium) on points in a lightweight bout in which Brown, although shorter, carried the fight to his opponent. V Kent (Donovan's gymnasium) defeated S. Giles (Caughey's gymnasium) o*» point*?. Kent used a straight left to advantage to steady the wild swings of Giles.
