ARCHITECTURE.

EXHIBITION OPENED. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS. HIGH STANDARD OF DEGREE. If the School of Architecture could do something to create an indigenous architecture in the Dominion, it would perform a great service, said tl:e president of the Auckland University College, Mr. W. IT. Cocker, yotenlav. 'at the o.'licinl opening of the schools exhibition at the college. The president believed that the school could help in that direction. On the platform of the college hall, where, the exhibition is being held, besides the president. were the pro-chancellor of the University of New Zealand. Dr. James Higlit, the vicechancellor, Professor T. A. Hunter, the chairman of the Professorial Board of the College, Professor W. A. Sewell, and the Professor of Architecture, Professor C. K. Knight. Mr. Cocker welcomed the visitors and made special reference to the presence of Dr. Higlit, Professor Hunter and oilier member* of the Academic Hoard, which is at present fitting in Auckland. The president said that the exhibition was even better than those of previous yea rs. Auckland, said Dr. Ilight. was forI lunate in having the School of | Architecture. Special schools should be j distributed all over the Dominion. He I congratulated the college in having elected Mr. Cocker as its president. Professor Knight described the work of his school, and also referred to the high standard of the New Zealand decree.
