PARKING TROUBLES.

KARANGAHAPE ROAD.

PROMOTION SOCIETY'S REPORT.

"One of the subject* occupying the constant attention of the society is the question of parking. The present regulation* are tantamount to total prohibition of jerking, as motorists in Karangahape Road arc unwilling to run t lie risk of exceeding the verv short time limits existing at present. We have consistently opposed the imposition of these regulations, and are pleased to report that it is now the intention of the Auckland City Council to comprehensively review the whole of the (marking regulations with a view to seeking a basis which would provide some measure of justice to motorists and business interests while, at the same time, meeting the reasonable requirements of traffic exigencies,"' stated the annual report of the Karangahape Road Business Promotion Society, presented by the president. Mr. E. E. Kitchener, at the annual general meeting in George Court's reception room yesterday afternoon. The report covered a wide range of subjects, and mentioned in particular the completion of the greatest undertaking in the history of the society— the installation of community lighting in the are«. A period of over two years was required in bringing the scheme to fruition, said the report, but Anally obstacles were overcome and the opening ceremony performed on March 10 by the Mayor, Sir Eraest Davis. It was pointed out that the 550 lights illuminated the road from end to end and invited pedestrians for all time to linger and <-os» the attractions in the windows. For the first six months the lighting fund showed an excess of income over expenditure of £11.). Membership of the society stood at 76, stated the report. During the year the secretary had made representation* for the widening of Cross Street, and the work was eventually done. The lateness of morning mail deliveries had been taken up and that grievance removed. Officers for the year were elected as follow: President, Mr. K. E. Kitchener; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. M. Blytli, L. O'Malley, J. O. Melvern; executive, Messrs. J. W. Probert, G. Court. A. Alev. F. L. Rendell, H. Stevens, J. W. Dickiiison, P. Landells, I. Phillip*, E. Smith, J. Jjaurenson, G. Ashley; trustees, Messrs. J. Melvern and Thomson; honorary auditor, Mr. J. W. Probert; honorary solicitor, Mr. L. J. Stevens; secretary, Mr. I. Meltzer.
