STOP-WORK MEETING.
GLASSWORKS' EMPLOYEES.
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD.
A stop-work meeting, which was attended by between 130 and 150 members of the Auckland Glassworks Employees' L'nion, memlters of the staff of the Australian Glass Manufacturers' Company, was held at Penrose this morning. The president of the union, Mr. K. Gimblett. presided. The meeting discussed alleged delay on the part of the Court of Arbitration ill dealing with the union's claims for a new award. It was decided to return to work after the meeting, and to ask for a conference with the managemnt of the company on Monday next.
The secretary of the union. Mr. -T. Purtell, said that the points in dispute involved a ;"»/ a week increase in wages, the question of a week's paid holiday each year, and extra payment for shift work. The dispute was heard by the Conciliation Council on September 21 last, after an application for a new award had h.-cn filed on August 31 last. The award they were working Tinder expired on October 21 last, but it would continue until superseded.
Mr. Purtcll said that the union was much concerned at the prospect of much delay In-fore the union's claims could be dealt with bv the court.
The manager of the company.. Mr. W. M. Kerns, said that the proposal that a conference should l»e held had lieen agreed to.
