WOMAN ATTACKED.

CHLOROFORM USED. CRIME IN STOLEN CAR. TKKEE TEARS' DETENTION. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) CHRISTCHL'RC'H. this day. .Tohn Stuart .T.irman. who pleaded guilty to a charge of assault, was today sentenced to three years' Borstal detention by Mr. Justice Xorthcroft. Counsel for Jarinan. Mr. C. S. Thomas, said the prisoner suffered from a dual personality. With another young man. he converted a car in which he found a bottle of chloroform, and he tried it out on the first passor-by. The judge said the nffenee was a breach of Jarman's probation order, in that he was ordered not to drive cars. He had stolen a car and attacked a young woman with chloroform —an exceedingly dangerous substance in unskilled hands. Further leniency, he added, might not only encourage further criminality, but might constitute a danger to the public.
