Mr. Kidd led by 62 votes after the first count and gained 21 on tlie recount of votes at the various booths. Postal and absentee votes were east as follows:— Absentee: Barnes, 2.35; Kidd, 1H8; informal, 1. Postal: Barnes, 8.3; Kidd, 80; informal, 1. Declaration: Barnes, 3; Kidd, 3. Seamen: Barnes, One doubtful result still remains to be decided. This is Mid-Canterbury, where Mr. A. X. Grigg (National) at present has a majority of 48 votes over Mr. H. E. Herring (Government).
