MAN KNOCKED DOWN.
INQUIRIES FOR MOTORIST. ACCIDENT NEAR MERCER. (From Our Own Correspondent.! MERCER, Tuesday. Inquiries ore being made by the police nt Mercer as to the identity of a southbound motorist who knocked down a pedestrian. Mr. Charles Henry Hughes, a wood-cutter, on the Great South Road last night. Mr. Hughes was walking along the road, about half a mile south of the Whangamarino bridge. when he was struck from behind. The driver, he stated, came back but then drove on again. It was raining at the time. The injured man was taken too Mercer by another motorist, and was found to have slight concussion and minor abrasions. He was able to return to his home to-day.
