END OF HIS CLAIMS FOR BRITISH BOXING TITLES.
The attempted come-back of the Irkh boxer Jack Doyle, known ae the Adonis of the ring, ended dramatically on Tuesday night at Harringay, London, when he knocked himself out in the second round of hie bout with Eddie PhiHipe. A United Press Association cable announced that Doyle lunged fiercely in the second round, mieeed hie opponent, and hie impetus carried him through the ropes. He •struck himself on the edge of the floor and knocked himself out.
Ihe fight was originally scheduled to take place on September 13. Doyle, who had been out of the ring for a year and ii half, and had become a film star (one of ni» roles was in "McGlusky, the Son Kover' I, sustained injuries to his rilis during training, and the tight was postponed a fortnight.
Tito elimination of Doyle from tlic Bntieh heavy-weight preliminaries will clear the air in regard to the next elimination bouts, for Phillip* ha« already been matched with Len Harvey. Hail Doyle lx>aten him the arrangement* would have been complicated. Another eliminator bout ha« been arranged between Maurice Strickland, the New Zealamler, and Larry Gains, the Canadian nemo. After a short visit to New Zealand this winter Stickland sailed for Vancouver, and it wae anticipated that he would meet Tommy Farr in Toronto. Threatened with disqualification by the British Board of Control, Fair surrendered his British an«l Kmpire titles, and it m these that will be at «take when the winner* of the next two 'bouts are matched in London. The Fair-Strickland contest did not eventuate, and the Xew Zealamler arrived in England from America early this month.
