PRISON rOR FIRST OFFENCE

Oetavius Frank Holloway (.-»7), a VVhangarei painter, who came down to Auckland for a week-end that extended over a month, during which time he left a trail'of valueless cheques behind him, w as before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court to-dav.

As he has been in prison for 14 daw and in view of his previous good record, I would ask your Worship" not to send him to prison." The Magistrate: It is a very doubtful case for probation. He i-ould hardly be on a drinking bout for so long. Holloway was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on one of the charges and on the others he was Admitted to probation for two years and ordered to make restitution of £47 0/.
