STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

MATED WITH DINK. The 1934 Great Xorthern Hurdles winner Wee Pat has been mated with the imported eire Dink. BENEFITED BY RACE. The race that lip Toes had at Avondale proved beneficial, and she has been infusing more dash into her work since The daughter of Tea Tray will be seen out at the Auckland meeting next month and will be an improved mare by the time that meeting takes place. In the past Tip Toes has registered her best efforts up to a mile, but there is no reason why she should not be capable of winning over a longer journey. STILL RETAINS HIS SPEED. The latest track efforts of Surella indicate that it will not be long before he reaches his best again. He has been in regular work since the winter, and is in first-rate condition, while he is showing all his customary speed over sprint distances. Surella is not engaged at the Auckland spring meeting, but will be raced at some of the later fixtures. LIKELY NOVICE JUMPER. Baldric, one of the latest additions to the list of jumpers at Ellerslie. is showing a good deal of promise in his early education. For a beginner he displays plenty of confidence at his fences and gives the impression tlint he may eventually do better as a jumper than he did when raced on the flat. HAS BEEN UNLUCKY. Comue. who is now held on lease by Mr. W. Broad from his owner. Sir. M. O'Brien, ran two solid races at Geraldine and will soon forfeit hin maiden status. He is a I four-year-old by Excitement and was purchased as a yearling in Sydney for Mr. O'Brien, who rnced him as a two-year-old a few times in 1937. The gelding' looked like making good, but met with various mishaps, and on more than one occasion had to be put aside just when he was considered ready to show his bee*.

MADE A BAD START. The two-year-old Beau Vite had made good progress at Foxton during the week prior to the Marton meeting and hie party looked forward to the Juvenile Handicap there with confidence. However, he failed to get away with the field, and no idea waa obtained of his possibilities. Has next race will be at Masterton. CUP HORSES FAIL. On Saturday's form at Geraldine Argentic will have to improve a good deal in the next lew weeks to have much chance in the New Zealand Cup, and Ponty e poor effort was not very encouraging for a prospective Cup candidate. Argentic s failure was not unexpected, but Ponty was very costly. Xo doubt the hard ground and turning course affected both horses. WELL-BRED SOUTHERNERS. Auctor, winner of the Wainui Handicap at Geraldine on Saturday, is a well-grown ciiestnut gelding by Balboa from Spean Bridge, a mare imported from England in lira by Mr. A. Unsholin, of Otautau, who bred Auctor. Spean Bridge is by Righ Mor from Annie Laurie, by Marcovil froni Gracious Annie, by Bachelor s Double, aniT before being put to the stud she won races for Mr. Chieholm. Another from the same stud at Otautau racing on Saturday was the four-year-old Boswell, by Balboa from Celerity 11., a mare also imported from England in 1922 by Mr. Chisholm, who brought out Glentruin at the same time. Celerity 11. is by Gainsborough from Force oi Gravity, by Forfarehire, and also won race* before being retired. Boswell has not done a great deal of racing, but is one likely to be in marked evidence this season. MEETING STRONG OPPOSITION. The latest track efforts of Palmint indicate that he is a fit horse, and his winning turn may not be far away. At the Ohinemuri meeting on Saturday the son of Paladin will contest the Hack Cup, in which he will be meeting strong opposition, including several recent winners. However, they have to concede Palmint a fair amount of weight, and if he runs up to his latest trials he will keep the best of them busy.
