BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL.

The Birkenhead Borough Council met laet night, the Mayor, Mr. E. J. Oeborne, presiding. Drainage.—The engineer, Mr. R. PWorley, reported that the contractor*, Meesre. Grinter Brothers, had completed the* concrete pumping station in Marama Terrace. With the exception of the lowbranch sewer to Carlton Terrace, the whole sewerage scheme was now installed. Scheme 13.—The local certifying officer advised approval of a subsidy of £4 per man weekly in respect of the continued employment of six men for 17 weeks at the quarry: and of the full wages cost for the continued employment of 53 men for 17 weeks on the formation of footpaths, cleaning of parks and reserves. An additional allotment- of £4205 had been made to cover these works. Ambulance.—A donation oi one guinea was made to the funds of St. John Ambulance Association. Removal of Material.—The Mayor stated that the disappearance of the council s material on a job at Beach Haven had been reported to the police.
