WELCOME TO AUCKLAND

\ lartre number of the members of the Victoria League gathered at the club rooms this morning to welcome Mre. John Doctor, the president of the Wellington branch of the Victoria League, who arrived in Auckland this morn-

ing. Mrs. Doctor wee welcomed by the president of the Auckland branch, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane. Miss J. Mowbray, the life-president of the league, wae also present. 11l welcoming Mrs. Doctor, Mrs. Macfarlane spoke of the pleasure it jjiivp nii'inbers of the Auckland branch u> linve this opportunity to make contact wtih the Wellington president. She presented Mrs. Doctor with a bouquet of pink and mauve sweet peas. Other officials present at the function were Mrs. L. S. Rickerby, the chairman of the Young Contingent of the Victoria League, and Mrs. C. R. Keeble.

In thanking the members for the enthusiastic welcome they had given her Mr*. Doctor spoke of the debt that Wellington owed to the Auckland branch through the good work of Mrs. Rickerby.

The girls in Wellington, she eaid, were very thrilled with Mrs. Rickerby's visit and wished to thank her for the excellent work that she bad done for their Younjj Contingent, Mrs.. Doctor also mentioned the visit of Miss Ella Hutchison, the leader of the Young Contingent. A short epeecn wae also made by Mix. J. B. Macfarlane in which she spoke of the Red Cross Society meeting held lest night. She urged members to take an interest in this work and said that they were starting V.A.D. i-lasses and would be glad of any volunteene from the young people of the city. A ehort musical programme, arranged by Miss Ella Hutchison, was given. Pianoforte solos were presented by Mrs. Reginald Reed and songs were given by Mrs. W. Baber. Mies Doreen Sannders ftleo presented enjoyable sketches. The hostesses for the morning were Mrs. Errol Hay, Mrs. L. J. Alprey, Mrs. C. Heather, Mrs. H. Loomans, Miee Ella Walker and Miss I. Lorie,
