SPECTACLED SAILORMEN.
Sailors are taking to spectacles—a fact that, for no very «;ood reason, seems strange. It is actually slightly in conflict with tradition, which had necessitated perfect sight (if such exists) in a sailor The Navy of late has allowed fnore latitude in this respect in many branches of the service and ha& now incorporated it« regulations in a new Fleet order. Nowadays even signalmen may temporarily wear spectacles if the ophthalmic socialists consider that symptoms of deterioration can be relieved. Many of the trade branches, such as engine room artificers, stoker*, ordnance artificers and electrical workers, may wear glasses, and where the need for them arises after entry they will be supplied free.
