MR, W. J. LYON ON DEFENCE.

Opening an address at Northcote last mght, Mr. W. J. Lyon, Labour candidate tor \\ aitemata, said war clouds were looming, and there was the possibility of the dogs of war being unleashed and the world going mad again. Adding however, that New Zealand was in "a better position to defend itself than ever before, he told his audience of over 400 what the Labour Government had done to briny this about.

Mr. Lyon was listened to without a single interruption, and he was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confiaence.
